Duabi is rightfully called the city of the 21st century. Walking through Dubai streets is akin to walking through visions of the future. Everything here is modern, grand, and designed to evoke awe and splendor.

While there are the huge skyscrapers and malls that resemble living, breathing cities, Dubai remains a wonderful destination for tourists more its muesums, and cultural landmarks. If you are heading to this part of the world on a Dubai holiday, here are a few things you should definitely check out:

1. The Dubai Mueseum

It is always a wise decision to start off the exploration of a country by beginning at the mueseum. The Dubai Mueseum serves as a repository of the city’s cultural and historical landscape. Walk through its large halls and galleries to see how a small tribal center developed into a true world city.

The building that houses the Dubai Mueseum is located inside in the Al Fahidi Fort – another landmark that was built over 200 years ago – and itself is culturally quite significant. The Dubai Mueseum is a must visit on any Dubai holiday.

2. The Souks

Dubai is littered with souks (a traditional market). From the world class Gold souks and modern shopping malls, to the tiny, street souks that sell everything from spices to clothing, a visit to the various souks is an experience in itself. For a truly memorable time, forget about the modern malls and head on to the old parts of the city for a romp through the traditional souks. These street markets haven’t changed in hundreds of years. Sharpen your haggling skills though; most shopkeepers will bump up their prices just to enjoy a nice haggle (sometimes called the ‘national pasttime’ of Dubai).

3. Miraj Islamic Art Gallery

The Miraj has one of the largest collections of Islamic art in the world. For the typical western traveler unaware of the richness and beauty of Islamic art, the Miraj Islamic Art Gallery serves as a wonderful introudction to Islamic culture. Experience the grandeur of Mughal miniature paintings, ancient Persian carpets, Turkish pottery and Iranian paintings as you walk through the Miraj for a truly memorable experience.

Dubai is a wonderful place to spend a week exploring an exotic culture immersed in tradition while still being very modern. As a foreign traveler, Dubai holidays can be a bit difficult to negotiate. The best you can do is to learn everything there is to about Dubai hotels, Dubai shopping, and Dubai attractions before you set foot in the city.
