We all have our dream holiday destinations, but we often find ourselves booking trips that dont live up to our dreams. Sometimes thats because we have limited finances and its certainly the case that money worries can ruin some holidays.

If you want to make the most of your money then it really is vital that you work out how much you have available to spend on any trip. You shouldnt be doing that just before you leave home – you should be carrying out this task before you even book your holiday.

That may sound good in theory, but why are we so bad at doing this type of planning? One reason is that we may see at as being rather boring. If we can focus on the thought that it could help us to have a much nicer holiday then that might make us think more positively about the exercise.

So what are the critical elements when calculating how much youre going to be spending? You should probably divide your budget up into a number of areas.

You might like to think in terms of how much it will cost you to reach your destination, the costs associated with accommodations, money for food and drink, costs associated with entertainment and anything that youll need for getting around once you reach your destination.

Ideally, you should be looking to reach one figure that will take into account all of the money that youll need to find prior to leaving home. You should then have a separate figure that some people think of as being their spending money, meaning the money that they will be spending each day while on holiday.

Dont forget to take into account any currency fluctuations and the fact that some products and services may be more expensive in your chosen destination.
